French Art Deco Restoration Project

A local client recently approached us with a heartfelt request to restore her grandmother's exquisite French Art Deco sideboard. Our client, who cherishes deep memories associated with this particular piece from her childhood, often recalls the joyful moments spent during her holidays with her beloved grandmother in France. Over time, this treasured sideboard was carefully transported to the UK, where it was lovingly passed down from her grandmother to her mother, and eventually, to her.

The wood of the sideboard was made from oak and had been dyed a very dark brown or black colour, showing numerous signs of wear and a long history of use, which only adds to its character and significance.

We carefully and meticulously removed the old damaged varnish, taking our time to ensure a smooth and flawless finish, and then expertly restored the wood to reveal the stunning, natural beauty of the oak underneath. Our client couldn’t believe her eyes when she noticed how dramatically the piece transformed; she was initially unsure whether it would truly suit her modern home. However, it now sits in pride of place in her kitchen, attracting admiration, and every visitor who enters cannot help but comment on how beautiful and striking it appears.
